Case-Study: Alma

In addition to designing prototypes, wireframes, user flows and iterative feature comps for the Alma learning management and student information platform, I work with the product team on strategy & implementation support, provide creative direction for all brand materials and designed the marketing site.

Role-Based Design

Different users have different needs so our app utilizes role-based workflows. This means designing things multiple times, but it’s ultimately a better experience for our schools.

In my first year we redesigned the app from the ground up – including more than 100 features – that’s a lot of user flows!

We’ve taken an innovative approach to design, adding time-saving enhancements and bringing data forward to provide insight where possible.

Kate Bagoy Headshot

Who is Kate?

Hey, I'm Kate Bagoy. Designer, Nerd, Travel Junky, Taco Connoisseur.

My journey into UX started 20 years ago when I learned how to build websites in Flash & Dreamweaver while studying graphic design.

Years later, after burning out of a cush design job at Nike, I quit to earn an MBA, nabbed an internship at HP, fell in love with tech & moved to Mountain View to work as a product marketing manager for a mobile startup. Silicon Valley proved not to be a fit - but I've been working with startups & entrepreneurs since!

I've worked with more than 50 early-stage startups & 1000's of small business owners as a designer, marketer, product manager, strategist, analyst, advisor and a Forbes Council's business coach. I'm also a graduate of the Portland Seed Fund have served as a mentor at @ATDC Startup Accelerator, Washington State University and @careerfoundry, and hold certificate's in HTML/CSS/JS & Human Computer Interaction.

I'm also an artist, a hobbyist photographer, an avid volunteer, course creator, animal lover, web designer, constant learner, world-traveller, voracious reader and author.

At the core, I'm a creative problem solver – I thrive when I can observe, analyze, organize and take projects apart only to put them together in a new and creative way.

I work remotely and travel whenever possible. In fact, I departed the US in 2017 to travel with Remote Year, and while I've since returned to Austin, I continue to travel half-time as a digital nomad. To share the journey, follow me on Instagram.
